I've started doing this new thing in the mornings. Post shower, pre breakfast I get my pot of tea and curl up on the couch with my notebooks (I always seem to have more than one on the go) and the book I'm reading at the moment.
What I don't curl up with is my phone or my computer.
My morning use to start with the pot of tea and the couch but also the computer. Then I would do what I think nearly everyone in the world seems to do, check my emails, look at instagram, check the weather and get lost in the internet. My justification behind the losing myself in the internet was that there was always something I wanted to "research" but really I was just surfing.
What I do now is think about my day. Remind myself of what I consider important to focus on. Take some time to ponder some of the things that I like thinking about but don't always get a chance to. Daydream and jot down ideas that come into my mind. Or just read my book.
I've discovered that this simple change in the way I start the day has brought three really joyous outcomes.
1. I get really excited about my day
2. By reminding myself of what's important to me I feel like I'm focusing on the right things.
3. By planning my day clearly I achieve much more.
